The Witness has Come

When Jesus began telling the disciples the truth about going to the cross, they didn’t really want to hear that He was leaving them. It was well known that Elijah was to come before the Messiah, so they asked Him a question to dissuade Him from leaving.
The disciples asked Him, “Then why do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?”
He replied, “Elijah does come and will get everything restored and ready. But I tell you that Elijah has come already, and they did not know or recognize him, but did to him as they liked. So also the Son of Man is going to be treated and suffer at their hands.” Then the disciples understood that He spoke to them about John the Baptist. (Matthew 17:10-13 AMPC)
If Elijah hadn’t come, then Jesus couldn’t go to the cross, yet. However, the prophecy of Elijah's coming was fulfilled in a way Israel didn’t expect. Jesus had to point out that John came in the power, and the mantle of Elijah, even to His disciples, many of whom were former disciples of John! There are two statements here that should not be overlooked:
Elijah does come and will get things ready and restored.
Elijah has already come, and men treated him badly and did not recognize him.
John wore the mantle of Elijah and was the Witness of the First Coming of the Lord. John had already been beheaded when Jesus spoke to His disciples about Elijah. Jesus was saying that what had happened is going to happen again before His return. A person will wear the mantle of Elijah to minister to Israel. This is confirmed in the Book of Revelation in the chapter that speaks about the Two Witnesses:
These have power to shut heaven, that it rain not in the days of their prophecy… (Revelation 11:6 AKJV)
The Witnesses are empowered to do certain types of miracles, which help us define who they are:
Elijah prophesied a drought.
Malachi 4:5-6 states that Elijah will prepare people before the “great terrible day of the Lord.”
It is reasonable to assume that one of the Two Witnesses will, again, be equipped with the mantle of Elijah. God sent a witness for the first coming of His Son, and there is a Witness for the Second Coming as well.
A famous minister went to Heaven in the 80s. He returned in time to preach at the church he was visiting. The congregation gasped and pointed at him. Much to his surprise, his face was glowing with God’s glory. Here is what Jesus told him when he repeatedly asked about signs of His return:
“Many people are looking for signs of My coming, and they should be looking for My Witness.”
God had spoken very loudly to me previously, “I called a Witness for the first coming of My Son, would I not call a Witness for the second?” Since the attributes of Elijah were described in Revelation, as we continue reading verse six, we see the attributes of the Witness of the Second Coming described next:
… and they also have power to turn the waters into blood and to smite and scourge the Earth with all manner of plagues as often as they choose. (Revelation 11:6 AKJV)
This is the description of the mantle of the Second Witness. Turning water into blood is what Moses did, along with calling down plagues in Egypt, when God revealed them to him. The second of the two Witnesses will wear the mantle of Moses. This Witness has a job to do before the pair becomes “the Two Witnesses.” Like Moses, the witness of the second coming will teach Christians who have forgotten God’s ways and lead them out of sin (Egypt).
Thus saith the Lord:
God has sent leaders to correct His children, but the correction became buried by messages of God’s grace. The corruption of God’s word by His leaders has allowed verbal and physical attacks to come against the churches, causing the little ones to be wounded and even be spiritually lost.
God has sent the Witness of the Second Coming into the world to bring the strong correction that His leaders have failed to deliver. She will teach God’s ways so that His children can come out of sin. Some will reject this Witness who wears the mantle of Moses, just as the first wearer of the mantle was rejected by the leaders of God’s people. Many will be spiritually lost as they attack her for bringing strong correction as an anointed Prophet, the mouthpiece of God.
At this time, the AntiChrist will begin moving. He and his forces will seem to be rescuing many from the “harsh corrections.” They will stir up a spiritual battle as the Two Witnesses unite in ministry. Those who wear the mantle of Moses and Elijah will emerge unhindered by the futile attempt to stop them because they are the Two Witnesses empowered by the Lord to give testimony against the nations of the Earth. The true Bride of Christ will receive their testimony and overcome the enemy by the blood of the Lamb, and the word of their testimonies, washing their robes as they turn from sin to prepare for the coming of Jesus.
High-profile Christians who are not willing to turn from sin will be open to attacks from the enemy: they will fall. This will bring a great revival, as many are drawn to God. Churches that fail to turn from sin and back to God’s ways will receive fiery correction, destruction, and their members will not remain untouched. As these events multiply across the earth, the AntiChrist will begin hindering worldwide communication.
The Witness of the Second Coming has emerged in the world, and it has begun. It is time to draw close to the Lord, for He will return in this generation.
